What is Hypnotherapy?

I am counsellor and clinical hypnotherapist based in Leicestershire. I have been qualified for around 10 years having previously worked in Human Resources for a large International company. A strong interest in health, well being and welfare led me to continue my studies, progressing from HR into counselling then hypnotherapy enabling me to offer support and guidance to those in need and help them move on in their life.

Having experienced the positive effects of this type of therapy myself and seeing the results and delighted faces and change in the people I see, I am my own testament to the true power of counselling and hypnosis as a complimentary effective medical intervention. As a result and with my years of experience I am able to understand and empathise with my clients on a deep level which can facilitate great change.

Hypnotherapy can be instant, requiring nothing of you but a willingness to change. By working together, it is your subconscious mind that can bring about instant and lasting behavioural change, without the need for extensive therapy sessions.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis can best be described as when a persons mind enters an altered state of consciousness, like day dreaming. You are not in a deep sleep and not aware of what’s going on around you, you are awake the whole time, but in a deep trance like state. When in this trance state, the subconscious mind becomes extremely active and is more alert and imaginative than during a normal awake state. It’s at this point your subconscious mind takes over from your conscious and facilitate great change.

You have complete control throughout the session and you are awake, you could choose to end the therapy at any point if you wished. As your therapist I will guide you safely using professional techniques to achieve the results that we have previously agreed upon during consultation.

Your subconscious mind listens to my voice in a subliminal way and when I talk directly to your subconscious mind in this deeply relaxed state, this is then where we make the positive suggestions that automatically sit comfortably in your mind. When you come back into full conscious awareness these thoughts are enacted immediately.

All you need to do is truly want to change and be committed to it. Then you can sit back and relax in safety and comfort and let me do the rest. Often people have secondary conditions bought on by the presenting issue and we can review these independently, but an immediate and lasting change can be made that easily.

The majority of us went back to work this week, for some its a blessed relief to get away from the family and get back into some kind of normal routine. The Christmas period can be an immensely stressful time of  for many families, how was it for you?

When you keep stressful and anxious feelings hidden, over days, weeks, months and years they can fester inside you and show themselves in other ways. Constantly putting the body in an anxious mode produces the stress hormone cortisol which is proven to hamper weight loss amongst other things.

When I see new clients for weight control, almost always the real issue is something else that is going on in their life. Some people can change for a while, but then why do diets yoyo, why do smokers start up¬†again? It’s all to do with stress and anxiety.

When the anxious feelings become too much, this can induce a panic attack. A really scary thing to go through. Anyone who suffers from panic attacks will tell you the main fear is worrying when the next panic attack will kick in. Imagine that?

Hypnosis Help to Pass Your Driving Test

Cat Person? Dog Person? Or Arrgghhh Person?

It’s said that most people are either cat lovers or dog lovers, who doesn’t enjoy taking your pooch¬†out for¬†walks on a glorious morning or cosying up on the sofa with a contented cat purring away in enjoyment.

But there are quite a few people who suffer from

Ailurophobia – the fear of cats

Cynophobia – the fear of dogs

This fear can develop suddenly without an actual incident to provoke it, or it can be a result of an unfortunate incident from a past time. You can also indirectly pass on phobias to your children. Were either of your parents afraid of something that you are now afraid of too?

In any case, these feelings can mature over time from a harmless fear into a phobia. Where the sufferer imagines scenarios involving the fear, in this case cats or dogs, and imagines themself to be in a perceived negative state¬†with the object of fear e.g ‘The dog in the park is going to bite me’¬†This event actually hasn’t ever happened, but by now the belief is so strong, the sufferer believes it to be true.

Having¬†fears and¬†phobias of any kind is debilitating and it can have a huge impact on your life and lifestyle. Dictating what you do, where you do it and who with. It can upset family life, it puts pressure on other people particularly partners and children to adapt their lives accordingly to deal with your phobia. This adaptation from everyone else further strengthens your belief that your fear is real, it’s got to be real if other people understand it, right?

There are four classifications of phobias

  1. Animal or Insect – this includes all types of animals or insects
  2. Blood, Injection and Injury Рthis phobia includes fear of injections to the fear of any medical procedure that is invasive.
  3. Situation phobias Рthis covers phobias that come about as a result of having to do something or having to be in a specific place e.g. fear of flying. The most common situation phobias are claustrophobia and agoraphobia.
  4. Miscellaneous phobias – this covers phobias that do fit into any of the above categories e.g. fear of clowns
